Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
John Adams
Senator Jeff Merkley: (Jul 1): “The rightwing Supreme Court’s attack on voting rights should be met with a fierce effort in Congress to pass voting rights legislation. We must fight back!”
“The rightwing majority on the Supreme Court is making it easier to buy elections and harder for people isn’t right and I will continue to fight for the freedom to vote.”
The issues are now well-framed:
1. We can no longer hope against the hope the Supreme Court will come to the rescue of ALL Americans. They are solidly in bed with the wealthy, the corrupt, and those sabotaging our democracy.
2. Please note that I did not say Democracy (as in Democratic Party. Nor did I say the voting process. Nor did I say Electoral Process.
3. The Voting Rights Act was burned to the ground in 2013 by the Supreme Court. Last week they emptied it of its power that remained.
4. Minorities already know where they stand. Unless a huge majority of Americans agree to stand up for their rights, we will see a major overturn of their rights due to the reaction of George Floyd by conservatives.
5. I could go on and on, but you will see small cracks in our freedoms. There has been no more deadly time for which to kill the voting rights than right now. Remember! what they can do to others they can do to you.
6. Think all the way back to Jan 6th. This was THE ONLY TIME that armed people attacked DC and Congress. The only time! What time does that make on our countdown to oblivion?
7. Think back to when no Republican voted to support a commission to award medals to the Capitol Police for the valiant defense of their poor sotted lives.
8. Think back to when no Republicans would EVEN VOTE to find out what led to the insurrection of Jan 6th.
9. I cannot remember a date when the Republicans stood for honesty, integrity, and fair play.
10. For a group of people to become an unruly, unruled gang is if they have no leaders.
11. To keep the Democrats out of power in 2022 they have shown how they will do anything to make that happen.
What if that does not happen – keeping the Democrats from regaining even one branch of Congress?
We know of what every single one of the Republicans is capable of.
What will the voters contribute to this discussion?
