I have loved the written word ever since I can remember. I had a paper route. For those that remember Grand Rapids way, way back when, I had to go to the Clark Station, on Hwy 2 West (not the current one) and pick up my papers.
I would start my route about a block from there and it would finish out by the Showboat dock - 3 miles? Then came the walk home! 6 miles on -40 degree mornings!
In the winter I would listen to the snow crunch underfoot and watch the breath vapor fog up my glasses.
Those were the days!
